Chapter Philanthropy

Our philanthropy is Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which is a non-profit organization that raises funds for children’s hospitals and provides them with materials that they otherwise may not be able to afford. It also works to promote community awareness of health issues regarding children and medical research in the field. CMNH focuses on giving back locally and when you donate to CMNH, they give the money directly to the hospital closest to you. All of the money that Gamma Theta raises goes to UVA Children’s Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. One of the events we participate in to raise money for this amazing cause is MadiTHON, a 12-hour dance marathon that is held every spring. Since it’s founding in 2014, MadiTHON has raised over $200,000 for CMNH. We also present Cheesin' For Children in fall, which raises money through chapter members cooking cheesy dishes that can be served to those who attend the event. We offer tickets for all students which allows so many individuals and organizations outside of our chapter to get involved. Our buffet of Cheesy dishes offers everything from pizza to mac'n cheese. CMNH is important to Phi Mu because it gives us the ability to give back to our community and see specifically where our money goes. We have been able to tour the hospital as well as have families come to MadiTHON. This has allowed us to build relationships with the families and the organization so that the cause means more to each and every member.

Gamma Theta also raises money for the Phi Mu Foundation, which aims to support Phi Mu’s in leadership, scholarship, philanthropy, and education. Phi Mu Foundation does many different things such as give out scholarships, hold leadership programs, historic preservation, and member assistance. Member assistance gives emergency grants to collegiate and alumnae members in good standing who have financial distress due to a number of outstanding circumstances. This cause is important to us because it helps women that we are bonded with through the ritual of Phi Mu.
